Perhaps a lot of us have come across social media posts featuring GAMBIA FOOD FESTIVAL, here's the exciting news: it is happening, for the first time in the Gambia, at Qcity, on 6th & 7th January 2020. It will be grand, exciting, fun, and remarkable!
Over the years, the main season that tourists are filled in the Gambia is usually the winter season; between November and February. Yes, they come for the beaches, the fancy restaurants, the famous Senegambian night clubs, the nice weather and so on. But from January 2020, young Gambians will give these tourists an engaging reason to visit Gambia, annually.
The festival with feature food (obvious already isn't it), the finest Gambian artists, thrilling games, competitions and even random gifts and prizes!
Gambia Food Festival plans to showcase food, which depicts our culture in an environment of endless vibrant and enjoyable environment entertainment all day long. In January 2020, Gambians and tourists from all around the world will come together to celebrate food, Gambian culture, music and games, while creating a networking and lively environment for all guests present. The Gambia food festival will not only make our nation a festival tourist destination, but it will give us an edge over other tourist destinations.
The team behind The Gambia Food Festival? They are a group of young people who have a very vivid vision, to play a little but meaningful role in contributing towards the encouragement of tourism through one common necessity of all tourists and locals −FOOD. Food has been one of the main points to consider holiday destination decisions, likewise a food festival will be an attraction for numerous visitors. In light of this, they figured why not stage the biggest food festival ever held in The Gambia. And, annually!
Working on The Gambia Food Festival isn't as easy as one would think because of the outstanding results being provided by the team, but it does not hold them back. During the press conference that was held on Saturday 12th October at Qcity, Mr. Emmanuel mentioned that perhaps their biggest challenge was their mindsets and that of the people around them. He spoke about how some people told them that they highly doubt that it will be possible to hold the festival at the Qcity Plaza because they do not accept food from outside into their Plaza. Nonetheless, they went forward and made the proposal to the managing board Qcity, who, after reviewing it, we're impressed and immediately allowed them to host the festival at the Plaza. And annually.
As this is the first and only Gambian Food Festival, there are 4 companies that have already partnered with them: The Gambia Tourism Board, Iris Studios, Binny Entertainment and Qcity. Potential investors, sponsors and partners are still welcome to join the Gambia Food Festival with benefits for them ready to be given.
