Today, I share five Gambian bloggers. Two of whom I’ve known through our blogging journey, one I came across today, one whom I know personally and one I recently started following. Four out of five of them are women. Exceptional women. And in the tone of a speech, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you all, my all time favorite bloggers in The Gambia.
Aji Kodou is a young Gambian woman who currently resides in America. Aji first started writing when she was in third grade. She had joined the press club in her primary school, where her primary role was to rewrite and summarize exciting articles from newspapers and magazines. Over the years, she grew up to love the art of writing and in October 2019 she started her blog (www.ikaadu.blog) In her own words, said, “when I write, my mind is actively picking up reasons and ways to dissect a situation while my feelings of being enraged or agitated are being numbed. This enables me to focus all my energy on one point, my mind.” Her blog consists of topics ranging from spiritiuality, poetry, and thoughts she feels essential to share with her readers.
Alieu Bah – or famously known as immortal - was born and raised in The Gambia. Alieu started writing when he was as young as eleven years old and has now grown to become a pronounced writer in The Gambia. As a social activist, he works towards and writes about African unity under scientific socialism among other topics of great interest. (https://content.redvoice.news/author/alieu/)
Ya Binta Darboe is another young Gambian blogger who also resides in America and only started her blog (darboeyabinta.wixsite.com/website) earlier this year but has been actively writing and sharing her short pieces on Instagram. She started her blog to connect and share with my readers, through her experiences or that of others, and writes on personal growth, spirituality aswell as poetry (she has for special kind of love for poetry.) Ya Binta also likes to speak on topics that people tend to shy away from, and just different things pertaining life and it’s hassles.
Maimuna Jeng is a young woman who lives and grew up in The Gambia. I have only recently started following her blog (medium.com/@Korrjorrjeng) but I promise you, she has great content on diverse topics that affect our lives – especially women.
For this last blogger - whom I only discovered earlier today while I was soppy - I only went through her blog earlier today and it made it enhanced my mood. Her art of writing made me surprisingly happy and I am willing to bet it’d do the same thing to you. Ya Mallen Jange. (yamallen.wordpress.com)
PS: Aji Kodou, Maimuna and Ya Binta are also participating in the #WinterABC challenge
